Robert Mitchell
Robert Mitchell is one of the battery and visual technicians for Brazos Valley Independent Percussion.
Robert graduated from William B. Travis High School in Richmond, TX in 2012. Though beginning as a saxophone player, he marched bass 3 and snare drum the last two years of his high school career. Continuing with percussion, he auditioned for and made the Apache Punch fall drumline at Tyler Junior College where he marched for three years as a tenor drummer, two of which he took the role of Tenor Captain. In spring of 2013, he performed with the TJC Indoor Percussion Ensemble as the bass 4 drummer. His following two seasons with the ensemble, he served as center tenor. In fall of 2013, Robert joined the Band Service Fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi, Zeta Xi Chapter. In 2014 he graduated with his Associates Degree in percussion. In spring of 2016, Robert got the opportunity to march quads with the inaugural open-class ensemble for Matrix Performing Arts, in Akron, OH, being one of the first two age outs of the group, where he was able to learn under the teachings of Rob Fergeson, Thomas Sparling and several others.
Since aging out in 2016, Robert has served as a battery technician for several different drumlines. His teaching experience includes the Kent State MGF drumline, the indoor and outdoor lines for Bryan High School, Travis HS drumline, the Foster High school drumline, and the West Side high school indoor drumline.
Robert is currently working on his Bachelors in Music Education with a double major in Saxophone and Percussion at the University of Texas at Tyler.
In his free time, Robert enjoys bow-fishing, playing drum set, gaming and traveling. He is active in his faith, and has had several opportunities to preach around the US and even several countries, including India, Kenya and Uganda.
